Authorities report that the baby’s father, Austin Stevens, 29, conducted multiple Google searches for nearly an hour before calling 911, including queries such as: “If baby stop breathing,” “What if you don’t hear baby heart or beat,” “My baby isn’t breathing,” and “How do you know if a baby is dead.”
Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele called the case “deeply disturbing,” stating:
“It is unimaginable that this child’s death could be more traumatic: sexual assault on an infant, followed by the father’s failure to act to save her, resulted in her death.”
Stevens faces multiple serious charges, including involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, child rape, aggravated assault, aggravated indecent assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and other related offenses.
He is currently held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $1 million bail, with a preliminary hearing set for October 13.
