A routine late-night Uber trip in Los Angeles took an unexpected turn when a driver discovered his passenger completely unresponsive in the back seat. What was supposed to be an easy drop-off suddenly became a situation far more serious than he anticipated.
After pulling over, the driver tried repeatedly to wake the man — tapping his arm, raising his voice, even stepping out and opening the rear door. Nothing worked. With cars zooming past and the passenger showing no signs of consciousness, the driver realized he might be dealing with a medical emergency rather than simple drunkenness.
Left with no other option, he did what he never thought he’d have to do on a ride-share shift:
he called the police.
Officers arrived quickly. Bodycam video shows them checking the man’s breathing, trying to rouse him, and evaluating whether he needed urgent medical help. After several tense moments, the passenger finally opened his eyes, dazed and slurring his words.
Authorities determined he was heavily intoxicated and not capable of taking care of himself. The Uber driver explained that he couldn’t safely leave the man on the sidewalk — and didn’t feel comfortable continuing to drive with him in that condition.
What began as an ordinary ride turned into an unexpected late-night rescue amid the chaos of LA nightlife.
The passenger was transported for medical assessment, and the driver received praise for handling the situation responsibly.
In a city full of sleepless nights, it’s often the ones who can’t wake up that spark the biggest emergencies.
