A 73-year-old woman, Linda Frickey, was violently carjacked in New Orleans and dragged over a block while caught in her car’s seatbelt, resulting in her death from blunt-force trauma.
Four teenagers, all minors at the time, were taken into custody and charged as adults: John Honore, Briniyah Baker, Lenyra Theophile, and Mar’qel Curtis.
In November 2023, the three girls accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to attempted manslaughter, and were each sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Family members of Frickey described the defendants’ remorse as genuine and said they were relieved that justice had been carried out.
Honore went to trial and was found guilty of second-degree murder in May 2025, receiving a mandatory life sentence. However, because he was a juvenile at the time, he will be eligible for parole after 25 years.
