A peaceful afternoon at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo turned into panic when the main worship hall suddenly gave way during the Asr prayer. Students performing congregational prayer scrambled to safety as the sound of the collapsing structure echoed across the campus.
According to those at the scene, small cracks appeared in the roof moments before it came crashing down, leaving almost no time to react. A number of students sustained minor injuries from falling materials, but the swift actions of teachers and staff helped ensure everyone was evacuated without serious harm.
Emergency responders — including firefighters and police — arrived shortly afterward to assess the damage and check that no one remained inside the debris. Authorities have since blocked off the entire area and labeled it unsafe.
School officials explained that a thorough investigation is now underway to determine the exact reason for the building’s failure — whether it resulted from aging materials, construction problems, or weather-related conditions.
Images and video clips of the ruined hall have spread rapidly on social media, sparking messages of sympathy, prayers, and solidarity from alumni and the broader community.
The school has made reconstruction and structural reviews its immediate priority, while all prayer activities have been temporarily relocated to another facility within the campus.
